As a true leader in the web hosting industry, ThinkHost started with, and still employs, a
different approach to dealing
with growth. We invented our
Hosting Genius program, which allows us to maintain the highest level of reliability
and security, while keeping our maintenance and upkeep costs low. This allows us to offer
a high level of
quality and reliability at very reasonable prices.
Our approach is very simple - instead of constantly acquiring additional servers, which would prevent us from quickly
rolling out software updates and security patches, we simply upgrade and expand a very small server farm of
custom-configured servers as our needs grow.
As of March 2006, the configuration of our primary server (Socrates) is as follows:
CPU: Pentium 4 2.8GHz
RAM: 2 GB
HD 2: Western Digital WD2500JD/SATA 250GB 7200RPM
OS: FreeBSD 5.x
Our other servers:
Athena
CPU: Pentium 4 3.2 GHz
RAM 2 GB Hynix DDR 266 ECC
HD 2 * Western Digital WD2500JD/SATA 250GB 7200RPM
OS FreeBSD 5.x
Plato
CPU: Pentium 4 2.8GHz
RAM: 1 GB
HD: 2 * Western Digital WD2500JD/SATA 250GB 7200RPM
OS FreeBSD 5.x
Zeno
CPU: Pentium 4 3.06GHz
RAM: 2 GB
HD: 2 * Seagate SATA 250 GB RAID 1
1 * Seagate SATA 250 GB backup drive
OS: FreeBSD 5.x
Mail servers
CPU: Celeron 2.4 Ghz
RAM: 1 GB Hynix DDR 266 ECC
HD: Seagate ST380011a/IDE 80GB 7200RPM
OS: FreeBSD
The memory and disk space capacities of our servers are monitored around the clock, and expanded as the
need arises. The same automatic monitoring also keeps a constant watch on all processes running on the system to
minimize the risk of any single site can pulling the entire server down.
